2006-Puerto del Carmen
The fact that Lanzarote is built by some more or less or active volcanoes is also very well visible under water. As one of of the Canarian Islands in the Atlantic Sea the underwater wildlife is somehow a mean value between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean sea. Next to the well known monk fish – which is bigger than his cousin in the Med – you can find file, parrot and puffer fishes that are common in the Caribbean. On night dives I often encountered small sharks (eg angels) and rays. I dived with Centro de Buceo Atlántica, whose base is located right middle in Puerto del Carben, below the Hotel Fariones.
